Luminato First Night
An annual adventure in art and creativity begins with a fabulous Friday-night celebration in Yonge-Dundas Square , the hub of activity for the Festival’s first six days.
R&B star Melanie Fiona and rocker Sass Jordan headline a celebration of Canadian divas for Luminato First Night, Luminato’s free opening-night concert in Yonge-Dundas Square .Juno Award-winning rocker Jordan shares the bill with Toronto-born singer-songwriter Fiona, a 2010 Juno Award nominee for her single “Give it to Me Right”. Fiona’s other chart-topping song “It Kills Me” recently earned her a 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

It’s your chance to make all your best moves under the night sky as Luminato’s downtown hub becomes a giant open-air dance floor, pulsing to the live sounds of some of today’s hottest bands. Luminato’s series of nightly concerts in Yonge -Dundas Square encourages festival-goers to discover their inner divas.
Each night there is a different take on the diva theme that runs through several Luminato events this year – Latin, Drag, Bollywood, ’80s Girl Night, and J-Pop (Japanese Pop) – so feel free to go crazy. The performers for these shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

Expressions of Brazil Celebrating Brazil's culture in Canada

As part of the World Routes Summer Festivals at the Harbour front, Expressions of Brazil is three days of Brazilian music, food, arts and culture. Performers direct from Brazil come to Canada to display their talents, and local Brazilian acts are set to perform as well.

The annual Beaches International Jazz Festival showcases jazz, blues, big band, vocalists, African, Caribbean , reggae, hip-hop, South American, Latin, rhythm and blues and more.
The festival is spread out over three venues in the Beaches and features varied collection of musicians. The Woodbine Park venue has three stages from July 16 to July 18. Street fest takes over Queen Street East on July 22 to July 24. The festival ends at Kew Gardens on July 24 and July 25.
